Blog for EC Class

One of the questions in my assignment this week was to post a blog on my personal interests. Now originally blogging was supposed to be a personal interest, at least I attempted to make it one. That all failed thanks to work and a lack of schedule. Well here goes another attempt.

Two of my personal interests are the wide worlds of professional wrestling and mixed martial arts. Now one of these things is not like the other. Professional wrestling is staged and more theatrical while mixed martial arts is more of a human cock fight. I admit wrestling is staged, but not for the weak of heart. When I first stepped through the ropes at my first day of training I thought I was a superstar. That was until my back hit the mat and all of the air quickly escaped my body and it was no where to be found. I quickly learned that although it is staged, it is a grueling sport. Now as for mixed martial arts. It is far from a human cock fight. The training and the different levels of mastery of mixed martial arts is incredible. The best boxer in the world can walk into the cage and get beat by a mediocre Brazilian Jui Jitsu practitioner. And vice versa. In order to be a fighter you must practice several different forms of mixed martial arts to survive. And that's what I enjoy most about it, the different techniques and game plans fighters try to impose.

Another interest of mine that people have laughed about is my love for Godzilla. Nothing is better to me than a guy in a big rubber suit. And please do not interject with, "well how cool can he be, Matthew Broderick beat him." That was not the real Godzilla. It was a bastardization of the legend known as Godzilla. All that was needed was for Toho, the company who created Godzilla, to blow the rape whistle. Now the US movie wasn't bad, if it wasn't named Godzilla. I do believe my love for Godzilla movies came from my childhood. Back then we didn't have cable television, we just got whatever local channel our coat hanger antennae could reach. And most of the time on weekends, there were Godzilla movies. It was either that or "Little House on the Praire." Now I could continue writing about my love for Godzilla, but since I'm doing this for class, I digress and move on.

For some reason as of late I have become obsessed with tattoos. Now I don't have any of my own, but I find it fascinating the designs and locations people decide to get them at. Also the inspiration behind them. I'm drawn to them and find myself having more conversations with random people I'll meet in the street to ask them about theirs.

Now I could lie and continue a list of all my interests. In reality I have a lot of interests but they are mostly all fleeting. I like to read, but haven't read many books. I like to write, but haven't written in a long time. I used to always be on active searches looking for new workouts to do, and now I'm getting more round. The main thing in life I do is work. I work for a family company and it takes up most of my time. The main interest above all I love to do, is selling. I get so much joy from being able to take a product or service and selling it to consumers or other businesses. I just can't get enough of it. Especially during the holiday season my family puts up a Christmas Tree lot. There is absolutely nothing more enjoyable than selling Christmas Trees. There's no pressure sales there, no commissions pending. Just the holiday spirit. My tag line I use is "it's not really about the tree, it's who you put around it."

And that is it for the interests that come to mind. On to the next question.

Mind Kingdom

I wrote this poem while down and the tree lot. Most of my writing is just getting thought out there and doesn't ever see the light of day. But I am very proud of this one. So I thought I would share it.

As I sit in solemn silence,
I start to get thoughts of violence.
My mind starts to make maps and a route,
To find the quickest solution to its upcoming bout.
It never used to be this way,
Would just trouble itself with the next thing to say.
Plan for greatness for it and its vessel,
While in the head all nicely nestled.
And then a rumor began to spread,
Of a word that the mind now dread.
It must not be spoken in our realm said the mind,
Remember before it was not so kind.
That word tore our kingdom apart,
And it was all the fault of the heart.
Now hurry and bring him to me now,
I will put an end to this I do vow.

The heart was brought forward but it showed no fear,
The eyes looked on as they shed a single tear.
Is this rumor true and why do you spread such lies,
It is no lie said the heart even ask all your spies.
Do not be afraid of it because of its power,
You should not hide and should not cower.
Before the heart could continue the mind shouted no more,
Your words make me sick to my core.
As the mind was setting the judgment the heart began to flee,
And here we are the mind planning violence with such glee.

Suddenly the sensation of warm steel entered his back,
He fell to the floor like a large potato sack.
As he looked up what did he see,
A knife with his fresh blood that read love will be free.
The knife was handed over to the eyes which said,
This is for the sight of her beauty from her toes to her head.
Then it was handed to the skin who replied,
To feel the sensation of her touch again I shall not be denied.
Then it was handed to the ears,
To never hear her voice again is one of my fears.
Over to the tongue the knife would go,
If you refuse me her kiss then that makes you my foe.
And last was the final member of the minds trusted court,
The nose spoke no words can describe her scent and to this we resort.
All of the council of five followed queue with the heart,
And drove the knife deep enough that nearly tore the mind apart.
As they all looked on on what they had done,
They knew from the word the mind could no longer run.
The heart spoke there the knife shall stay,
Lodged deep inside till its dying day.
But don’t feel pity for him not even a bit,
The mind will soon discover we are empty without it

The New Year is here

The New Year has arrived and I welcome it. I may or not be ready for what the year holds but look forward to see what I am capable of doing and obtaining this year. I still have to chip away at that before I'm 30 list.

So before the clock struck twelve I pretty much made a pact with myself. I mean I wasn't going to celebrate New Years in Las Vegas or Oregon as I had contemplated. So I thought to myself what am I to do different this year. The the light bulb went off, I'm going to be cutting off all my hair soon anyways, why not fashion a mohawk to ring in the new year prior to that? Try something different right? Well as the clock struck twelve and my phone was going off the hook with calls and texts from friends wishing me a happy new year I was brushing off the hair off my t shirt and checking out the end result. Below is my before picture, followed by my after picture. Enjoy.

And this is the result.

Now I'm not saying, yes this looks awesome, that wasn't the point of if it looks good or not. The thing was to start the year with doing something different. Which I do believe I achieved. And yes I still do have the same hair cut. Not sure when I will cut it, I will, but at the moment enjoying having a different hair cut than I am accustomed to.

Hope everyone's new year is starting off grand. I think the only new years resolution that pretty much sums up all my wants and desires is.

JUST DO IT AND DON'T WUSS OUT, YOU WANT WHAT YOU WANT, GO GET IT.

So I hope to all you live a year with no regrets.

Adios,
Jesse
